Hey! Thanks for sharing the information. I'm still in doubt whether Google will charge for its OS or not.
I think Techcruch has released a similiar article too. But, Google chrome just runs in virtual hard drive than in our hard drive. Might be they release it for general use in mid of 2010 and I am eagerly waiting for it.
I've been running it on one of my PCs for a while, I kinda like it. Its a bit buggy at the moment but that is to be expected in this early stage. I boot from usb and get to the login screen pretty quick, (around 17 seconds atm, but I could probably bring that down a bit by disabling HDD and DVD from the boot list), once you type you UN and password in, its pretty much up and running instantly. The copy I have is from Hexxeh, its still the same version from 3rd of December, so he must be nearly ready to release another version soon. You can follow his progress on twitter, and download his latest version with a guide to putting Chromium OS on a USB stick here Cheers James
No, it'll be free. You can download the source code and compile it and run it yourself at the moment.
I look forward for google chrome OS, and If it is free then it is great. I dont have pay for Windows....everytime MS comes with new release.
So it's basically Linux with some Google's apps and themes...wouldn't call that "Google's Operating System"
I wonder if any laptop or cell phone companies are going to pick up Google's new OS to use on their hardware.
To clear up confusion it is going to be free - just like the browser. Why? Simple - The more time people spend online, the more money they spend online, the more advertising Google can sell.
