For all people who are just starting to learn how to promote their sites, do not try multiple methods at the same time or you might end up tired without any result... Start with one or 2 method first and when you are about to master these methods and you used to do it, add another method in your arsenal... In order... First month Do forum posting and blog commenting daily. Add useful blogs into your rss readers so that you can post comment when there are new posts. Second month while still doing the above methods, start to write and submit articles and links to directories... Third month onwards... Now that you are seeing the result of what you are doing, try other methods like social bookmarking, yahoo answer, twitter, etc... but make sure your 1st and second month activities are still going... You are just adding methods but not changing... Do not try to do all of these on the first month if your time can't handle... Most of all, spend 80% of your time in promotion and 20% in content... hope this will stop you from posting questions like How to promote my site, how to get traffic, how to... seo.. etc, etc.. this is very simple but fruitful if followed correctly...
I would work more on the content of the website from my view. Content is more important overall than the promotion of a website. If you have the good content and tell a few people, then word gets around and it can help alot. The search engines also like good content and the occasional backlink coming back to your website. Do not over-do the link building because they may get "Sandboxed" and you may risk suffering because of it. Regards, ~ Mike

Your idea is for experts and not for newbies... yes, content is good, but beginners are expecting traffic from direct promotion and not from long-tern seo... Direct promotion first to generate immediate traffic before long-term seo...

Great tips Viktor Drej, and I am surprised because your strategy sounds so similar with what I am doing for my sites now But I am sure there will still be a lot of people asking that exact same question on how to promote their site bla bla bla. They just wouldn't care to use the search features..
I couldn't agree less. Firstly, it's an unnatural way of getting links - one month loads of forum links, next month loads of directory links etc - runs the risk of bringing attention to your strategy of the google spam team. Secondly, promotion isn't just about the affect on seo, it's also about direct traffic, and again, I don't think this is an efficient way to get that - you need to go out there, find where online the people you want to target are. And real people don't segment themselves into these tidy little categories.
Hey mate these tips are good but you know Search engines are changing all the time and today is almost 2009 and link backs from the related forums are a bit obsolete thing. I mean it's still works but registering an appropriate domain name is much more important than back links

I once failed due to poor promotion, and your tips are just so helpful. But I just to add something on the first month. We must choose the high traffic blogs and the ones relevant to our niche. This is a very good way in getting quality backlinks. Unfortunately, there are some newbies who failed to do this. They prefer the blogs that has tons of social commentators, but the traffic they get is useless. Although they may get a lot of followers and friends, they cannot convert them to money.

why not outsource some of the tedious stuff as giving just 20% of the time for content is not a good plan.
