    What is Motor Neuron Disease?
Motor neuron disease is basically a group of neurological disorders which destroy cells controlling vital muscle activity such as speaking, walking, breathing and swallowing. In the normal mechanism messages from upper neurons known as motor neurons in the brain are transferred to lower motor neurons in the spinal cord and then to the muscles finally. In motor neuron disorder commotions occur amid these transferring of messages from brain to spinal cord and then to muscles which causes severe muscle weakening and fasciculations. During this disorder the abilities to have control on voluntary movements are highly affected and in extreme cases a person is not at all able to control the voluntary movement.
    How is it caused?
There are various contributing factors which lead to the origination of motor neuron diseases. These factors emerge as the major causes leading to this disease. Usually these disorders have been identified as occurring due to genetic influences, inheritance or sometimes it can be acquired as well. It usually occurs in men instead of women around the age of 40 when symptoms get clearly apparent. According to detailed research on the disorders the causes of sporadic (non-inherited) MNDs are not known, but ecological, noxious, viral, or genetic factors may be concerned. Common MNDs include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), progressive bulbar palsy, primary lateral sclerosis, and progressive muscular atrophy. Other MNDs include the many congenital forms of spinal muscular atrophy and post-polio syndrome, a disorder that can raid polio fighters’ eras after their retrieval from poliomyelitis.
