    Hello Everyone,

Many consumers, even those who have been using the net for awhile dont think its is trustworthy when it comes to buying things and stuff. Many still believe that printed media holds more authenticity than info found on the net. I would like to know how you guys think this could be changed. I understand that many have been led to thinking this way because of doubtful practices and scams by some...but how could we make the whole thing more viable for future generation!?

    Your comments appreciated!

    Many thanks

Well first off you would have to think, that some people are never going to buy anything online, no matter what you tell them. So, it's best we leave those people alone. But the main thing people look for when buying things online is if it's good trustworthy site. Take Walmart for example: People don't even hesitate to buy from them, cause they are a nationally known store that has a great reputation.

Another thing that pops into mind, is Ebay. Why do people buy from there all the time? I think it's cause there's a third party involved, and it gives them some kind of security knowing that they can file a complaint and get the user suspended if they rip them off. You can use that same concept for your site. Promising money back Guarantees, giving them the information they need to contact you. Just try to make them feel as secure as possible.

Alot of people are mostly worried about scams and other issues on the web, i as a consumer would prefer buying something that is 2$ more expensive offline then online mostly due to the fact that i'm worried about my details being leaked onto the web :)

Its easier to publish something to the web - It can be done in a few seconds.

It takes a long time to get something in printed media and it can cost a lot. This means that only certain people do it and these people are more trusted.

Unless there is something that regulates what is published on the net (which is against what it is about), printed media is always going to be more trusted.

Saying that. There are certain reputable sites you can trust.

But what of those respectable sites that we trusted and those also wound up getting caught up in some form of skullduggery? i mean how adverse would the affect be on consumers then? =]

When I say trusted sites I am referring to respectable site belonging to news companies or educational bodies.

I agree with you, but in certain cases even the said respectable and well known websites have had their servers exploited or reputations tarnished due to one issue or another.

I think the best thing someone could do is install the Alexa toolbar, at least in the browser they use to shop online with. While shopping online you can factor the popularity of the site whether you should trust it. For example if you end up at some site and the alexa is 5,000,000. Its unlikely they have many customers, This would be like the equivalent of walking into a store in the middle of nowhere that nobody's heard of.
If the Alexa is 2,000. This tells you the site has many customers before. So it probably safe to buy from there.
Although not to knock on any new online store. It can be tough to get a good Alexa rank.
