Most of them are for traffic. Stumble is what you do when you use stumble upon and rate a site. Either thumbs up for like or down for dislike. Digg is digg.com and it is a place to submit articles with a link back to your site. If you article gets dugg or voted by a bunch of people, you may make it to the front page and get lots of traffic.

You can read about stumble upon on my blog http://stumbleexchange.blogspot.com

A "digg" is basically a vote or a "thumbs up" from a member of Digg.com, one would post an article - in your case whatever you are promoting, on the digg website, and users will digg (positive) or bury (negative) you're idea, based upon what they think of it or whether it was useful. Its a good way to find out how popular an idea is, a nice thing to boast about, and also a large amount of Diggs will usually draw more interest to you're idea.

Yes but digg exchanges are not. You will get banned if you ask for exchanges in digg. I emailed Stumble Upon to check on exchanges and they said it was fine.

You can post something very interesting or funny and if the content is worthy enough it will get voted up and more people will see it and some will blog about it giving you links.
