Hi Laxmi,

You register domains by at least the year, or longer (optional). You can register any type of domain with any of the providers you mentioned above and many more! Whoisguard is "private" domain registration, it hides your personal details from WHOIS lookups on that domain. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Unfortunately i don't have much time to give you descriptive information for each of your questions. But i will give you short answers just to point you to the right direction.

You can register your domain with any of the registrars named above by you, or you can seek and find another cheaper registrar. Usually prices for domain names go from $7-$11/year.

Uptime = how long (in monthly basis) the server/site is ONLINE and hasn't crashed.
Downtime = how often, and for how long the server did not gave response, was down.

As far as for web hosting costs, it can cost you from $2/mo to $10/mo depends on your requirements and of the quality of hosting you want/need.

Cheers.

the other guys answered the other questions of yours,
as far as
is concerned,
the registrars register domains from ICANN,
you cannot register 1 or 2 domains there...if you do want to register, you have to register in BULK...by bulk i do not mean 100 , i mean 1000+:D

1. Godaddy, Dotster, etc.. are certified resellers that resell domains through a service. Most sites are certified by enom to resell.

2. You can register domains yourself by going to any site that sells domains, such as godaddy, dotster, namecheap, etc..

3. Domain registration varies on the site you get it from, the cheapest and most reliable I have seen is godaddy.

4. Domains are usually paid on a yearly basis. Your first payment would be for your first year.

5. Hosting also varies depending on the site, if you want go plans and reliability I would suggest, www.nixism.com.

1. A sub-domain is a domain acting off of another. For example, www.dog.nixism.com is a subdomain, in which "dog is the subdomain.

2. You can get as many sub-domains as you wish depending on your hosting provider. I recommend www.nixism.com if you want unlimited sub-domains.

3. Yes, sub-domains come with your host, depending on what your host provides. Most hosts do allow sub-domains.
