I am new to all of this. But recently I have decided to create a website, a fansite to be exact...and I am in need of alot of good advice and help. I had a friend recently create a site and he told me about adsense. And i'm over here thinking that you get a flat payment rate per click but i guess not. My friend gets a whopping .25 cents per click which i think is alot! can anyone help me understand adsense. like what are proxies? and how to get better and high paying ads? are there ways to ad ad's to your site that is not relevant to your site to get higher paying clicks? oh and i guess it would be called 'fraud' if you are clicking on ur own ads..but how does google know that? more on that subject is also needed cuz my friend is telling everyone to go to his site and click his ads and im guessing that isnt good?!

ANY helpful tips with getting started is VERY appreciated! I am doing research in every part of webmastering before i get started! and ANYTHING will help!

    thanks!

wow thats a LOT to answer. most info can be found on these forums or around the net, but ill try defining what i can.

    1) can anyone help me understand adsense
simply put, you put adverts on your site and make money when people click them (or sometimes CPM = per 1000 pageviews). thats the gist of it, though u prolly already knew that, be more specific.

    2) what are proxies?
they change your IP and can allow you to surf the net anonymously and pass filters. most often, ppl use websites to use them. try: proxy.org for more info

    3) and how to get better and high paying ads?
i guess you're referring to higher CPC (cost per click). this depends on geographical location, subject of site, type of ad... lots of variables. some keywords pay higher than others, in general you need to find a good niche to get more CPC.

    4) oh and i guess it would be called 'fraud' if you are clicking on ur own ads
yes its against google TOS (terms of service)

    5) but how does google know that?
IP address! (and many other sophisticated ways im sure)

    6) more on that subject is also needed cuz my friend is telling everyone to go to his site and click his ads and im guessing that isnt good?!
its bad... very bad. he may get his account banned very soon. google will find out one way or another.

for more info on this, read around the forum.

A niche is a specific category/subject you base something on. For example if you make a website about a honda accord your niche is cars/hondas/accords.

Generally, a niche is a special place within the scheme of things. It sometimes denotes the function or position of a thing within a structure. Niche is an English word of French origin.
