Hi I recently hired a programmer on scriptlance to program a site for me, after 1 month he said he had finnished and that when I paid he would upload the site, I paid him $1350 and he produced no site, I started a paypal dispute and escalated it to a claim. The paypal claim has been live for a month and paypal havent got back to me, I doubt I will get my money back anyway, I paid for the job via the money in my account balance accept for £100 GBP which I paid out of my bank account, is there any way I can get all the money back and if not can I get the £100 from my back account back? Please help Thank you
You have 2 choices - you either wait for PayPal to sort it out or you take it to the UK small claims court if you have evidence of the agreement (I assume you're in the UK since you mentioned GBP). It doesn't cost much to take it to court (about £35 I believe) and if the other person doesn't turn up you win by default! The bank isn't obliged to refund your money because it wasn't their fault you've lost it. If however you had purchased it on a credit card the Consumer Credit Act places an obligation on the card issuer to refund the fraudulent transaction - that's why it's often safer to use a CC over the internet.
Do you know anything about the seller? I know that in the states, if you paid with a credit card, you would have some recourse. I would follow up again with paypal, that will be your best bet.
Paypal is ussually pretty good about getting money refunded but it just takes a little bit, I am assuming longer due to the larger amount. Try emailing paypal and ask them for updates on your dispute.
