Just noticed my thread has been merged. I am with Virgin too. Is their anything I can do to sort this out?
Be a sticky wicket. The more complaints they have to deal with the more likely you are to get action.
I\'m located in the North West / Merseyside area. Never been with NTL, been with virgin for over 2 years and never before had any problems accessing any website. In fact, DP is the only website I have been unable to access for a prolonged period. It is strange but it does seem like the DP ip address is being blocked. I don\'t know why they would do this though.
It doesn't appear to be blocked on our end. A trace route from our servers shows it's dropping out at Virgin Media... traceroute to 86.27.133.71 (86.27.133.71), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 localhost (127.0.0.1) 0.116 ms 0.412 ms 0.081 ms 2 digitalpoint-gw.colo.nethere.net (216.9.35.49) 2.673 ms 2.535 ms 2.171 ms 3 fa0-0.sndg-br-1.nethere.net (66.63.128.39) 0.825 ms 1.194 ms 1.100 ms 4 207-67-92-125.static.twtelecom.net (207.67.92.125) 1.827 ms 1.942 ms 2.353 ms 5 lsag-peer-02-so-0-0-0.twtelecom.net (66.192.251.27) 4.693 ms 4.583 ms 4.307 ms 6 xe-0-0-0.lon11.ip4.tinet.net (89.149.185.166) 155.135 ms xe-4-2-0.lon11.ip4.tinet.net (89.149.185.229) 144.085 ms xe-1-0-0.lon11.ip4.tinet.net (89.149.185.170) 143.310 ms 7 telewest-gw.ip4.tinet.net (77.67.65.158) 145.558 ms 145.807 ms 151.300 ms 8 man-bb-a-ae2-0.network.virginmedia.net (212.43.163.81) 161.295 ms 161.791 ms 156.294 ms 9 win-bb-b-so-200-0.network.virginmedia.net (212.43.162.202) 170.782 ms 170.782 ms 165.282 ms 10 winn-t3core-1b-so-000-0.network.virginmedia.net (213.105.175.34) 170.903 ms 165.905 ms 170.892 ms 11 winn-bam-1-ge800.network.virginmedia.net (62.253.121.162) 165.892 ms 170.889 ms 165.890 ms 12 * * * 13 * * * 14 * * * Code (markup):
Might not be a specific website, could be a large block of IPs. Not sure why they would do it, but it does appear that way. Do you have a trace route utility on your computer?
Go ahead and get one (they should be free) and do a trace route to 216.9.35.51 and see what the results show as.
Virgin broadband at the moment are doing major works across the UK with these new fibre optic cables that will offer super duper lighting speeds for internet users BUT while they are doing this they are also f&c*ing up half of the exchange connections. The same has happened with xbox connections as the lines cant handle it. In theory while they are moving networks around they are forwarding 1000s of people onto networks that cant handle it. I think that means that your pc cant get find a route to DP servers via the internet. Virgins answer to this is delete temp files, cookies and reboot the router....
Ah...so thats why I've not been able to get on here (using a proxy at the moment). So basically it's a Virgin problem? Anyone got anywhere from phoning them yet? If it's what Dan said then I guess it's only affecting the places where the are putting in optic cables (I know they are in my city). I'll phone them tomorrow.
========================================================================== VisualRoute trace to forums.digitalpoint.com ========================================================================== This trace was started on 08-Sep-2009 20:29:39. The host forums.digitalpoint.com could not be reached - it does not respond to VisualRoute\\\'s diagnostic packets. However, other hops in the network are responding, so the problem seems to be isolated to that one system and not its network in general.Hops after hop 11 could not be identified - this is usually indicative of a firewall at that point. The DNS lookup was completed almost instantaneously (less than 2ms - this may be the result of caching). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Hop | %Loss | IP Address | Node Name | Location | Tzone | ms | Graph | Network | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | 0 | | 192.168.1.67 | Admin-PC.lan | | | 0 | x | [Local Network] | | 1 | | 192.168.1.254 | speedtouch.lan | | | 12 | x- | [Local Network] | | 2 | | | | | | | | | | 3 | | 62.253.121.41 | winn-t3core-1a-ge-112-0.network.virginmedia.net | (United Kingdom) | | 38 | x- | NTL Internet | | 4 | | 62.253.184.113 | win-bb-a-so-130-0.network.virginmedia.net | (United Kingdom) | | 46 | -x- | NTL Internet | | 5 | | 213.105.172.130 | gfd-bb-b-so-100-0.network.virginmedia.net | (United Kingdom) | | 42 | x- | NTL Internet | | 6 | | 77.67.65.161 | xe-4-2-0.lon20.ip4.tinet.net | (Germany) | | 49 | -x-- | Tiscali International Network B.V. | | 7 | | 89.149.187.138 | so-3-3-0.was11.ip4.tinet.net | (Germany) | | 138 | -x-- | Tiscali International Network B.V. | | 8 | | | | | | | | | | 9 | 14 | 207.67.92.138 | 207-67-92-138.static.twtelecom.net | Kenosha, WI, USA | -06:00 | 192 | x | Kenosha Unified School District | | 10 | | | | | | | | | | 11 | 91 | 66.63.128.40 | vl98.sndg-cr-1.nethere.net | San Diego, usa | | 196 | x- | Nethere | | 12 | | | | | | | | | | 13 | | | | | | | | | | 14 | | | | | | | | | | 15 | | | | | | | | | | 16 | 66 | 66.63.128.40 | vl98.sndg-cr-1.nethere.net | San Diego, usa | | 198 | x | Nethere | | 17 | 66 | 66.63.128.40 | vl98.sndg-cr-1.nethere.net | San Diego, usa | | 192 | x | Nethere | | ? | | ... | - | | | | | - | | ? | | 216.9.35.60 | forums.digitalpoint.com | San Diego, usa | | | | Digital Point Solutions | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Code (markup):
Did it start working for you or something? Your trace route looks fine and I'm also able to ping your source IP from the servers.
No I still can\'t access the website without going through a proxy. If everything looks fine then I dunno.
