Help! Won't validate because of 'Phantom files'

I just got the ads to run, but now it won't validate and the error message lists files that no longer exist!

I had to change the files from .htm to .shtml files in order to get the ads running and I deleted all the .htm versions from the server. When I try to validate, the interface says that I can't because there are no ads on 'somefile.htm'. But there is no 'somefile.htm', it's now 'somefile.shtml'.

Why is the validator seeing files that don't exist, and how can I get it to refresh it's view so I can get validated?

eh, looks like we have to help each other through this lol, anyways I heard that the ad network checks all your pages of the website that are indexed in google (and possible other search engines) since you just changed the filenames right now, google still has your old cache and the ad network thinks you don't have ads on those pages.

CRIPES!! You mean I have to wait until Google re-indexes my entire site?? That could be weeks!

If this is true, it's a MAJOR weak point in the network system. There must be a better way~~

Will google bot come around as soon as the indexed pages are removed? If not than it could be a bit devestating effect, especially if your site gets regular visitors.

This is what I did when it was trying to validate pages that didnt exist. It was trying to read an entire directory of files that had been deleted from my server

I recreated the missing directory, with a new index.htm file with the correct php code inserted.

then I changed the .htaccess file to add a 301 redirect
    www.tamingthebeast.net/articles3/spiders-301-redirect.htm

    Worked for me.
