On google, http://talkbinary.com shows no descriptions next to its search results. In other words, this search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=best+program+alternatives&btnG=Search Shows my site ranking #2 for this particular keyword but there is no description... Can anyone help me fix that? Would appreciate it a lot!
Agreed. Your pages are lacking a META description tag, and Google isn't finding any relevant content on the page itself to use as a description for that particular search term.
Ok thanks I'm downloading the All-In-One-SEO-Pack! Thanks! Using this tool I found that fixed it using this plugin... http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html
THere's no need to. AIOSEOP will take care of that, plus so much more. When you consider what it can do, compared to a large number of pluigns, why not use it instead of the collection of plugins and and save some valuable server resources?
I should look into it. TBH wordpress is pretty well setup out of the box. You don't need too many plugins. If you think installing some All in One SEO plugin is the answer to all your SEO problems you would be deluded
@dcrsito.....do u use All In One SEO plugin?.....let me re-phrase...do u know how to use it PROPERLY...and to its full effect?....
I don't know if it has been fixed yet...any idea? Am I missing something? I made this theme from scratch so I don't know if I missed some important key elements! Search Talk Binary in Google and my entry has no description!! Yes, I installed the SEO Plugin.
Chances are Google hasn't re-crawled your pages yet. Give it time. (Or if you're impatient, just ping their server - but it's not something I recommend in most cases since I happen to be very patient and have a long-term view of SEO.)
Hi Kuriyaki - I've just checked the site and here are few things I've noticed: 1) Meta tags description and keywords are present, so you've installed and configured the plugin alright. Just give a Google more time to recrawl your site and change its description in SERPs. It often takes time and sometimes you'll have to wait until Google recrawls your site more times (2-3) before it decides to approve your new meta tags. It is kind of a defence against sites that change their meta tags very frequently. 2) I would play with the keywords little bit more and choose better ones - current keywords you've chosen are one-word and highly competitive which means you won't rank very good for them at the moment. Try to choose 3-5 word phrases as those are the ones people search for most often. 3) Edit your title - now it says just Talk Binary - make it more meaningful - maybe some short slogan or a very short description containing your keywords. 4) Your site is not valid (47 errors). Sometimes search engine bots have little problems reading content from sites that are not valid, unclosed tags or syntax errors sometimes confuse Google bot. Moreover your stylesheet contains many errors, too. Make sure you fix that. 5) This has nothing to do with SEO but I've noticed that your site doesn't display properly in Opera - you should check how your site looks in various browsers and make sure it looks good in all of them. Your visitors will appreciate that. 6) I would certainly modify your robots.txt protocol file. You should at least disallow bots from accessing few folders (wp-admin, cgi-bin etc...) - in a longer run it will be bad for SEO if the bots keep crawling also files with no relevant content. 7) I checked your sitemap. It seems alright but maybe you should assign greater priority to your posts and lessen priority of pages - you don't really want them to appear in SERPs instead of your posts, do you? 8) Add rel="nofollow" to all irrelevant links (pages, RSS subscription links, hyperlinks in posts etc). You don't want to share your homepage's PR with pages like About, Contact us etc... do you? 9) I checked your source code only very briefly so I might have missed it - but do you have any h1 heading there? You should add one, h1 headings have a great importance for Google bot (comparable with title tag). Also you are using only h3 headings throughout the site... maybe you should use also h2 tags for post titles? That's it for now - I might come back later with more suggestions. Remember that SEO takes time so be patient and meanwhile optimize your website and add unique quality articles. I'm sure that eventually you will rank good for your keywords.
Re #8 - I wouldn't rel="nofollow" the WordPress Pages. The feed perhaps, but not the Pages. And you are right about the lack of a H1 heading - it's the topmost heading on a Web page, and is usually used as the "main content" title (in other words, it's used like a page title). On the single.php file, that would be where the post title goes; similar to how the page.php and post.php files should be set up. The home page though, is going to be tricky given how it's currently set up. Though that could be corrected by adding a bit of content (such as an intro blurb) to the home page.
I really don't know about Wordpress pages - I usually rel="nofollow" them. There isn't really any important content on those pages so why should homepage share its pagerank with them?
And whose fault is it if there isn't much information on a WordPress Page? (Not only that, but it wouldn't surprise me if Google and the other search engines would eventually consider it to be a manipulative practice either - another good reason to avoid it now.)
Thank you for the GREAT feedback!!! I'll most definitely look into this. I'll probably get around to it during the weekend so I'll post updates as soon as they come!
