Ok... so first things first.... I started a domain on GoDaddy (thebitcheryshop dotcom) and decided to just have them host the forum I was going to "build" from Simple Machines Forums. I couldn't figure things out and a few people told me that GoDaddy was horrible at hosting, so I found another site (Arvixe) to host my site and since I STILL couldn't figure out SMF, I chose to try the MyBB forum software. I'm a noob at this but SOMEthing has got to be wrong, considering I followed every instruction on a few YouTube tut's and did everything as they said and yet.... nothing was happening. So heres some questions I hope someone can answer before I throw my laptop out the window (LOL): 1. Since GoDaddy was the original hoster, how does that work? How does it switch over to Arvixe... or does it? I tried working on both and yet nothing was happening with my site, so I was getting confused as to which webhosting site I should have been working with. 2. I downloaded the forum software, unzipped it, used FileZilla to connect to the FTP, moved the files over... and yet my homepage doesn't change (I would like the forum to be the main/homepage). I'm still getting the title page letting people know its "coming soon". I've tried to pull up the install.php's on both SMF AND on MyBB and yet nothing works. I've spent all day trying to figure this out and I'm about to pay someone to do this for me .... any help would be wonderful!!!
According to the dns & IP, its still hosted on godaddy. You will either need to change the dns record and point the @ and other records at the correct IP for the new host or completely change the dns servers listed currently to the new hosts, if the new host provides their own dns servers.
As far as the "coming soon" page, delete any index.* or default.* files in the root directory before uploading the forum files. Run the installation (follow the instructions - you'll be going to a site like thebitcheryshop.com/install/index.php, or something similar). The site will default to any index.htm, index.html, index.php (or the "default" versions) if you don't specify a page when you go to the site's address.
