My friend Peter is a photographer in San Francisco and he's trying to get found on Google for the keyword "San Francisco Wedding Photographer" and he's not doing to well. His website is http://www.peterbrucephotography.com I mentioned to him that spiders don't crawl flash sites as well as real sites so he needs to focus on building backlinks instead of adding content. I'm I correct with this statement or is there something I can help him with that will increase his rankings? Unfortunately I'm not in the SEO department for my company, or else I would as them, so instead I'm asking you folks here.
Theres absolutely nothing (other than the page title) for google to spider or rate for ranking. No keywords in the domain either. You are not going to rank for that term without some changes. If it means changing his site to a design he's not happy with, thats unfortunate. But its better to have a site you are 80% happy with the look of that gets hits (and paying customers), than a beautiful one that gets none. Really if he's serious about making money from online I'd scrap that site and start again. Otherwise at least add spiderable text, and an html navigation menu. If he's determined to stick with that design, I'd just go on a link building campaign, but the job would be far easier with at least a little of the onsite stuff corrected.
The site is made of frames, if you view the source or cache there's nothing there which means he's not going to rank. According to Google it's a 1 page site with no content. As Vic said, if he wants to rank the best thing to do is tear it down and start again and don't frame the content like that.
We just finished removing all of the crazy frame sets from this photography website. Is there anything we missed as far as SEO goes? Here is the url again and a list of the changes we made... http://www.peterbrucephotography.com • Removed the previous “FRAME†approach and replaced it with simple pages. o You can now easily traverse the site and if you like to refresh a page it will actually work instead of pushing you back to the home page. • Fixed the slideshow pop-ups for people using IE, this was broken and not showing images. • Changed “print†pages to kick off the actual print command to expedite the process of printing by removing unneeded steps. • Removed all unwanted files and logic that was not being used on the site. • Updated the pop-up menus to function as they are supposed to, allowing moving around the site much easier. • Cleaned up all code pages to easily maintain the site from here on out.
