help with new website and google --novice needs advice

Hi, I have just had a website built for me and have been told that it will be about 4 weeks until Google picks up the site although Meta Tags have been completed.

The site is http://law-essay.com OR http://www.law-essay.com

The site is to help students of English Law write their essays or dissertations.

Can anyone advise on the quickest and cheapest method of getting the site onto the Google search engine.
I was thinking about buying Google ads but is it worth it, or is there a better way?

I am a complete novice in case you hadn't guessed!
I replied on someone else's thread but I need to start a new one.

    Thank you

Using google ads probably won't get you indexed quicker *, but it will let people know about your site.
The quickest way to get indexed is a backlink on a site that's regularly crawled.
But just being in Google doesn't necessarily mean that people will find your site - you need more seo than that. Which is where google adwords can be useful to get the knowledge of your site out there while you pick up back-links.

(*the google bot and the adwords bot are separate entities but it has been suggested that they 'communicate' with each other, so having adwords can bring you to the attention of the googlebot - but this is only a theory)

See bro if you have at least one link on another site and your site is on a dedicated IP then its all ok Google bot will find it. It may take 1-2 weeks, but they find almost every site that is possible for them to reach.
If you don't want to wait, you can go to Google's help section for webmasters and you can submit your site to them. OR just submit to :
    http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl
This may speed up the process. You can also submit the xml sitemap to Google using the functions inside your google account.

It is worth signing up for google adwords and running a quick test campaign, set aside $30 or so and see how much it acturely cost per click. Spend a penny..

So far as getting into the search engines, there is no quick way and defiantly no cheep way.

The main things you want to look at long-term are:

Your sites content and whether your keywords appear in it. Their is no point having a title 'Welcome to my Website' you want something like 'How to write a Law Essay' or just 'Writing Law Essays'.

Getting links from sites that are relevant to your content. Don't bother with people offering links from 'Betties Ironing Service', it has nothing to do with what you do. Try to get links from Universities or student resource sites. Remember that a link to you site is counted as a vote by the search engines - A lot of links = a lot of votes = you site must be useful.

Finally, before you type 'law essay law essay law essay law essay law essay law essay' into your meta tags. This is not the way to do it, in fact meta tags do not hold much weight so far as the main search engines are concerned. Make sure you do use meta Tags as you will most likely find that your description tag is used in your result in google, but don't count on them to launch you to the top of the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages's).

    So to sum up:

Content - lots of it, stuffed full of you keywords
Links - lots of them, from relevant sites

Thank you for all your helpful replies.

I read somewhere that a contact phone number should appear on the website whereas my Contact details say that a telephone number will be provided once an interested student sends an email.

Will this have an adverse effect on the website ratings?
Should a phone number be on the actual site?

4 weeks to get indexed sounds a bit much. i think if you submit it to high pr websites you will get indexed in 4 days... not weeks!

Not sure about 4 days, Google updates it's index on a monthly basis - give or take.

If you are 4 days away from the index update then yes, but if you miss it by one day, google will crawl your site if it finds it but you will still need to wait for the update.

As for a telephone number, i have heard people talk about this being important and i can imagine it would be. Google could easily tell if one was present and it would make sense that they would want to see one.

More than anything else, having a telephone number present will reassure your visitors that you are a legitimate service. I normally plaster the phone number at the top of the site, it can't do you more harm than good.

The cheapest way is to be patient and let the GoogleBot do its job. If you've got a few links to your site around the internet, the spider will find your site and index it. No need to spend money on links/ads/etc.

One place to start getting some links is to add your website to your profile on Digital Point. This makes a link to your site appear on every post. Digital Point is also a pretty popular site with Google - so it'll get you some attention from the spider.

You could also try writing/submitting some articles to article directories (i.e. GoArticles.com, ArticleBase.com) or Press Release directories. These are quick ways to get a handful of links to your site out in public, so that Google can find and index them.

    Good luck,

Step 1- Add your Website into Google Here
Step 2- Add some Article into Article Directories
Step 3-Optimize your site with SEO techniques

I think those are the first steps to get indexed by Google and Yahoo.

Once again thanks for your help.

I think that I should get a phone number onto my site before I do anything else.

I checked to see if you were indexed by google and you already have 33 pages indexed, thats really good if the site is new!!!! Is this an old domain name you have purchased or have you brought the site off a company as it looks like this is a parent company in the footer!

No, it was just bought in the ordinary way and was an available domain name.
It is not connected with any company and is being hosted by my website designer.

Well that is good news on the Indexing front.
As I seem to be doing quite well on Google do you think there is no hurry to get the phone number on the site?

I do say that a phone number will be made available when an interested person emails me. I was trying to avoid having it on the website just because I might receive calls from people who had no intention of using the services and were trying to find out my other fees eg. if they wanted the work done in a hurry. If someone has to go to the bother of compiling an email listing the details I have asked for, it might mean that they are serious about using the service I provide.

If I did put the phone number on the site would I have to ask my website designer to re-submit the entire site to the search engines?

Apologies if these are really basic questions.

There is something you should know about it when you are new in internet and Google world.

1-You have done the first step very good that means you started your own website.
2-Second step was nice too that you got indexed by Google

But you should know it doesn´t end here for your internet marketing. You have to be found by Google and Yahoo searches. That means you can get visitors to your website, when someone can find you by using special keywords.

I am sure you have many special keywords for your business. You have to write many unique and powerful articles about your business and website. Use those keywords everywhere. The more keywords on your website the more Google Robots are interested for you and your keywords.

Do not forget it is not important to have your telephone on your website or not. Because if you do not get any traffic from Google and Yahoo, you cannot hope that someone would call you.

After all you have a long road on front of you and you are at the beginning. But you should know it cannot happen without hard working.

Important is for you, that you have always every few days fresh contents with your keywords on your website. Use your keywords as many as you can and you will have success if you do that that way.

I was so amazed that I did a check on my SEO rating.
Actually I think you may be getting my competitor's rankings--the same name as my site except they are essays not essay. They have 33 pages indexed in Google and have been around for a few years.
So I am not doing as well as I thought!

I have now registered and posted on some UK Law student forums,
    e.g. www.swarb.co.uk and www.lawforums.co.uk
and this has already generated interest in just a couple of days. I can discuss the nature of the website and have posted my phone number as well.

So you are correct, there is much work to be done in order to generate interest in your website.
