Hi My blog has been up and running since the end of May this year and I am slowly building links to it. I have heard that you need on average 30-40 good quality links to get a PR4 and although I am not sure if this is accurate or not I am struggling with building links. Also, when I check my links I only show four in google but more in other search engines. Does anyone know why? Thanks
Hey, It depends on what the links are that you have coming to your blog. You will need some pretty high PR links to get just 30 and get a PR 4 blog. As for Google they always show lower results for the links they have indexed, and I still don't know why. As far as getting links all I can advise is the standard: bookmarking, articles, forums, blogs, web 2.0 etc... Cheers
Google's link:domain.tld is inaccurate (deliberately), you should use google webmaster tools to check your backlinks.
First of all, you should be posting like mad on each and every single blog and forum that you can find that is discussing the same topic your website is about. comment on blogs, and post on forums frequently, every day. Drop your link where appropriate, but jsut as importantly, contribute regularly to the discussion until you prove yourself as knowledgeable about the subject. That will buy yourself and your website more credibility. Also, Google's 'link:' command only shows the backlinks that google find credible at the time of the last google backlink check. They update the backlinks infrequently, usually only once per month at best. The don't like to show more than 1 or 2 links per domain, they don't show no-follow, they don't show links from 'bad neighborhoods', and they don't show backlinks that were gathered before the last time the domain dropped. I also suspect they don't show links they have determined to be link exchanges, or links they have found to be on the same 'network'. There are a ton of other reasons as well. In other words, they weed out all the crap, and only show quality links.
Thanks for all your ideas and help. When you post on a blog, you are usually asked for your name and URL, the URL doesn't show in your comment but does it count as a backlink or do I need to actually include the link in my comment.
It depends on if the link in your name is no-follow. I check the source code of the blog I am commenting on to see if the link in the name of the previous commenter has a no-follow attribute in the link's html. If it doens't have a no-follow tag, then it should count as a backlink. In that case, I usually register my name to be my important keyphrase. For example, in my case, my name on the blog might be 'Text Links'. Also, keep in mind that even if it's a no-follow blog, writing a well written, thought provoking comment on a popular blogpost can give you some exposure, quick traffic, and ultimately lend credibility to your site as well. While most of my SEO efforts are based on link that provide seo benifit, if I find an article I really like that is no-follow, I might still spend the time to comment on it just to get my name out there more.
Post your URL and anchor text any where you can, but be consistent. If you are going to be post on 6 sites, keep that pace for 1 month. Don't post on 13 sites in 1 day and go into hiding.
I like that strategy, too. I like to say you should try to gain at least 2 or 3 backlinks everyday..... forever. Or for as long as you own, or are promoting the site. Also, Find new ways to get backlinks. Use social marketing. Use strong affiliate programs. Provide an RSS feed. Use unique article marketing. If you have a small budget for advertising, purchase a few quality reviews. Get a text link ad or two. Try a banner somewhere. Do a little pay per click.
Agreed. Steady, continuous inbound linkbuilding is crucial. Good job there are a few new options for doing that steady growth now....
Try to do social bookmarking like digg, twitter , and stumble upon in order to increase your page rank.
First, there is no such forumal such as how many backlinks could bring u a PR X. You want PR, then U have to do all the on page and off page thing to build backlinks, to creat great content and so on. Second, different SEs has different algo, so it is anything but common to have different rankings in different SEs. hope u can understand!
Hey.. you can try to bookmark your blog to various social bookmarking site.. It will get you many visitors to your blog..
Yup. Be consistent in backlinking your site. Atleast 5 days in a week or more. if you can. This should somehow raise your rank
If your only aim is to get PR4 then..get the list of Dofollow blogs and comment like anything..40 is ok for it. But if you want to improve your serps , then you need to build links in a consistent manner.40 links a day may lead to Google penaltly after couple of months...Good/updating content and good(may be less in number) is needed to rank better in serps.
