Help with link access via email

I have set up my email client to send an email to a user telling him he can access his file by clicking the link shown in the email message.

    The file is in C:\XXX\TA\Folder\.

So, I really don't know how to link back to that. I only know how to link back to files in httpdocs.

And I'm wondering where it might be most secure to allow users to access thier files stored on my web site.

And how might a path to a file be somehow hidden in the link?

And how would I link to C:\XXX|TA\Folder?

    Can someone please educate me?

    thanks.

The files are on a Windows server I assume? if so they need to have access to that folder and long in to their email from remote desktop, which I am sure you wouldn't allow them to use for security reason, the files have to be accessed via web or ftp, you choose where you want them and send them the link.
