I have a site (www.floridabassfishing.us) that's about 4 months old and is ranking between #1 and 2 in MSN Live using SEO and having a good amount of back links. Over the last two months my site has improved from the mid 500's in Google to 80. This site is reasonably optimized for my keywords florida bass fishing, however the strange thing is my other site which is not as well optimized for these keywords is ranking in the 20's? That site is only a couple of weeks older? Why is this occurring since they both have similar amount of backlinks with similar PR sites linking to them? What else can I do to get this site on the 1st page? I did notice that the domain name had been previously owned (in whois) while the one that is ranking higher had no previous owner. Could this have an effect. All responses are greatly appreciated. PS- There's approx. 20K traffic a month per overture for these keywords. What kind of income can be expected from Google adsense with a fraction of this traffic?
If ur site is having good SERP then u can earn $$$$ from this. To improve SERP build backlinks with ur targeted keyword as anchor text.
Make sure to link the one ranked higher to the lower one. This way it helps that site out and it is one you wnat ranked higher. Get more links to the site you want ranked higher and use keyword combinations the links.
Bass fishing is a widely searched term and you will be up against a lot of competition. Optimise for several different aspects of your site such as florida bass fishing / florida largemouth bass fishing and so forth before you go for the big one of say florida fishing / fishing florida / florida bass. Submit to loads of directories. Stay away from paid links at the moment and use your keywords as anchor text on all of your links.

Maybe you can learn fromt he second website and try to figure out what factor make it ranked better. then apply it to the first site to test your hypothesis. It will help both site to get a better serp by using each site advantages.
Take note of the on-page and off-page factors of your site... Writing a good content for website is also a factor to get good rankings at SERP.
Update your site frequently by adding your keywords and distributing them in correct places, SERPs can depend on the keywords in your site.
