Help with Google rankings

I have two site. www.mcnabs.com and www.homesinsouthernaz.com Both do not rank well with Goolgle. Both rank very well with Yahoo and MSN. Both have lots of quality links.

My competition sites that rank well in Google have almost no links. Why can't I do better than I am doing? www.homesinsouthernaz.com does not break the 100th position for any keyword combos relative to my site. www.mcnabs.com is at the 50th position at best.

I am limited to the code NetObjects Fusion produces for me as I am not a HTML programmer. I know it sucks, but can't imaging it is hurting me much at all. If I make the keyword density better, the content will not make sense and people will not get anything out of my site.

    What do I do?

First thing I did was check out your competition

    http://www.homes.com/Real_Estate/AZ/City/SIERRA VISTA

    http://www.homegain.com/local_real_estate/AZ/sierra_vista.html

These guys have a different layout to your website (their websites are not perfect though so you can beat them if you are going for the same serch terms - it will take time though)

When you open their pages you are immediately presented with a the terms you have searched for, or something similar.

"Sierra Vista Homes for Sale and Real Estate"

I had to look for it on your website.

Also notice this "term" has been dropped within a H1 header - very important as this is telling the search engine the main header of the page.

    .... and so on

I'll stop here and recommend the following. I think that the way the page has been constructed is almost definitely your problem. I see no H1 or H2 tags and the page doesn't start with what you do.

In fact, read the article here and modify your page to suit. This works.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice and the article.

I made some changes. Added a few H1 and H2 tags, Alt tags, etc.

What do you think now. Should I add more?

OK. I'd make sure that the first H1 heading would be

<H1>Sierra Vista Real Estate | Fort Huachuca Real Estate</H1>

and would make sure the content of the website contained the phrases "sierra vista real estate" and "fort huachuca real estate" at least once, but no more than twice, in the main body of the website.

This is all stuff you should be doing anyway as your wesbite should be suitable for your target audience. All I have done is clearly defined it for the search engines.

Good luck and hope this helps :)

I made these changes about 18 days ago and no movement at all in the search engines. Is it too early to tell if the changes halped or do I need to do more?

Hi BooBoo, you need to site tight and see what happens. You also need to get backlinks to your site with the following anchor text

    Sierra Vista Real Estate
    Fort Huachuca Real Estate

These also need to be in your signature on the DP forum here!
