I have a profitable landing page that gets about 500 hits/day. I know through number of affiliate hops sent that I am getting a click through rate of about 65% but do not what keywords they are coming from. When I started using analytics they show a bounce rate of 91%. When a visitor clicks on one of my affiliate links, does that count as as part of the bounce. Please advise. i need to eliminate non converting keywords. G.
in your situation your bounce will be very high since you do not want people to stay on your site. That is expected. Your affiliate program needs to provide you some type of backend campaign tracking parameter. Some do this and some dont. Then what you can do is pass the keyword that send the visitor to your site in the url. Example yoursite.com/?kw={keyword} then you can pass that parameter to your affiliate program so you can see which keywords converted. linktoaffiliateprogram.com/?kw=keywordgoogleinsertsintobracket
Thanks for the response. What about the site overlay feature that shows clicks on links. Is this accurate?
site overlay is good but I don't think that will make the connection between click and sale. Keyword X might send you 100 clicks a day of which 65 click the affiliate link but non never convert. And Keyword Y sends you 20 clicks and most of them convert making the whole campaign look like its a distribution of the 2 keywords. You will never know until you have transparency between keyword and conversion.
