Im using Godaddy's linux shared shosting server. i need to install ffmpeg but I'm having trouble without the use of SSH. Is there anyway that ffmpeg can be installed on the server to would I need to move servers to one that is compatiable with ffmpeg.
yes, ffmpeg can be only install by the root user. Either you get yourself a vps or get godaddy to install ffmpeg for you. -- joseph
i know this is an old thread but GoDaddy now provide SSH with shared hosting with some restrictions and i am wondering if there is any way to install ffmpeg on this? there key command which don't work (MAKE, SVN, PASSWD) i'm sure there are more but any help would be appreciated thanks
No. ffmpeg and related tools can only be install if you have root access. I am sure godaddy does not give root access its shared hosting customers. request Godaddy to install it for you or look for another host.
thanks for the reply - godaddy are unwilling to install ffmpeg on shared hosting. i have a vps acc as well with another provider but i can't get ffmpeg installed. i have tried about 6 tutorials today and non of them seem to work. can you advise on one which does? CentOS 5.3 - linux - apache 2
Okay, I have Installed it on your server. here is the output: http://www.mp3wap.net/phpinfo.php ffmpeg-php version 0.6.3 ffmpeg-php built on Jun 6 2009 14:00:16 ffmpeg-php gd support enabled ffmpeg libavcodec version Lavc51.40.4 ffmpeg libavformat version Lavf51.12.1 Code (markup): I think you have previously tried to install which resulted in few broken libs. I have fixed that too. Let me know if you need any further help
In Godaddy shared hosting u can't install ffmpeg in their shared hosting but there are many shared hosting provider have ffmpeg preinstalled in there shared hosting plan. so look for them.
