Help with ecommerce site?

I am looking to start up a simple ecommerce site where I would be selling a product I would be making. I would need a fully functional shopping cart. How does this all work, do you buy the site already designed and the shopping cart already included? How is the security of the payments taken care of? What is the best software to purchase for this? I am looking for a site that would be designed similar to this http://www.cornhole.com
    Thanks

    Hello,

Please, let me try to provide a bit more details.

Purchasing a ready-made shopping cart software is the best approach nowadays, there are many high-quality and affordable solutions on the market. Products coming with an open source code (I'd strongly recommend PHP/MySQL as a technology) can be later customized to suit your needs. There are both free and commercial solutions and it's up to you to decide a budget - however, overall, paid solutions are better supported and higher code qualities.

A design you've provided as an example can be easily integrated into the storefront. You may either make/buy a template and integrate it yourself, or order a professional service. Or, you may even order a brand new look and feel created from scratch.

On payments: you will need to register an account with some gateway and setup SSL certificate on your hosting. What market are you oriented on? Popular worldwide solutions worth considering include PayPal, Google Checkout, 2Checkout, SagePay, WorldPay and Authorize.NET.

I understand that this information is very basic and general, therefore, please, do not hesitate to ask further questions.

And, as a possible solution, I'd appreciate if you could look at CS-Cart. We provide a free two-month trial version at no restrictions, so you'll have enough time to prepare the store and start selling online.
