I hope someone can help me cause i am at a total loss right now. I just got my first dedicated server setup and i can't figure out how to access it. The support people tell me i can only access the server through SSH from a command prompt? I am just clueless and don't know where to start, any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

At the very least, get cpanel installed on it by the support people.

    well assuming you have WHM

    try these,

    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/whm
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:2086

replace the xxx's with the IP that gave you for the server :)

Definetly get whm. Its pretty much like the server control panel where you can do everything you want.

If you're using a mac, simply start terminal.app and type:

ssh login@ipaddress (where 'login' and 'ipaddress' should have been supplied with your config details)

You'll then be asked for your password and that's it, you're in.

For windows, 'Putty' does the same thing, you just have to download it as opposed to being built-in to the OS.

Even with a CPanel, you'll find some stuff a lot easier via SSH, I know I do :)

Assuming you have opted for unmanaged server, the first thing to do is to have a control panel installed and security hardened...else you will find the box hacked in a few days... ;)

Yes, i pay 25$ per month extra.Anyways you can download putty and setup your server by installing apache etc but i recommend whm as it's better if you are noob in server management.Once your whm is ready.Click on basic cpanel/whm setup and setup ns etc :)
