Hello, I don't know why my shape draw tool in CS5 gets autofilled with the foreground color. I want it to draw an empty square with an outline of PATH that can be stroked with differnt tools later and can be filled with other colors. regards, aqif
Use the selection tool (guessing you're using Shape) set to rectangle select, outline your area, and use Edit > Stroke...
I had been using this tool to draw paths and stroking them etc from some days. But, now I installed CS5 on my friends computer and there this tool draws things with autofilled. regards, aqif EDIT: I found it.. I had to select path button from top
The buttons on the top are some of the least known buttons in photoshop, while at the same time the most useful. Different ways of selecting items, changing fills, etc... Another way you could have done what you're looking for is draw the rectangle, rasterize the layer and Ctrl+click the rasterized layer to select the path.
Once you draw the rectangle, what you can do is control+click the layer this will create an outline path then just press backspace it will delete the inside of the selection for you while still showing the outline.
As steelfrog pointed out, you need the Paths option for the rectangle tool. It's a "button at the top" as I call them. Check out all the buttons on the other tools, you'll find that there's a much wider volume of effects you can get with them!
