Help with creating a new blog on my site

    Hi

I wonder if anyone would be willing to point me in the right direction with a blog project.

I run a small business and I want to install a blog on my website, hosted as part of the website itself. My website is perrgrove dot co dot uk

I write my website myself in raw HTML - I guess this will have to change some day but at the moment it has the advantage that I understand exactly how it is put together. The disadvantage is I have never progressed beyond basic HTML - I don't even know how to code CSS!

    The functions I want:
    1. I want the blog to be part of my own website and I assume I need some software for this; I don't want to use Wordpress or Blogger etc.
    2. I want to understand enough about how the blog works to be able to maintain it myself despite my lack of expertise
    3. The structure of the blog will be simple linear ordered by date but each post will have a topic name and I want people to be able to search for topics
    4. I want a small number of trusted people to have the right to post on the blog without having to use FTP. In other words I want them to be able to log on to the blog and make a post without involving me
    5. I want the public to be able to add comments to blog posts, and I want to be able to delete these comments if they are spam or offensive
    6. I want blog entries to include photos and video clips, and links to yahoo videos
    7. The blog needs to be an integral part of the website and accessible to search engines.
At this stage I'd appreciate suggestions for different ways to achieve my objectives, or modify or add to them.

Once I have an idea for a good way to make this happen I will allocate a budget and at that stage I'd be willing to pay someone to do the job for me.

    Thanks for reading this.
    Michael

Your site doesn't even load for me. Curious to know why you don't wanna use Wordpress?

Hi - thanks for looking at my post. My website is definitely up: www dot perrygrove dot co dot uk. I am denied posting of live links here.
I thought Wordpress had to be hosted on a third party site and not on the server that hosts my own site - am I wrong about this? I definitely want the blog to be part of my existing site and not something separate.

Use Wordpress and install it into your website's subfolder. You can use "one click install" if your host supports this feature.Otherwise You can start here:wordpress.org

There is a difference between the wordpress software and the site that hosts wordpress blogs.

Wordpress (the software) can be installed on your site and in my opinion is the easiest way for you to go. Like mccomf said, you get that at wordpress.org or install it through the control panel of your hosting account.

Wordpress.com is where you would go if you wanted to set up a free blog using wordpress software and didn't want to host it on your site.

I am beginning to understand this now. At the moment I can tweak my site to my heart's content - looks like I could do the same in WordPress and still have everything on my host under my control. And I could definitely have a good blog on the site using WordPress.

I'm now looking for a WordPress developer!

Thanks to all for the help.
I have now engaged a firm to build a new website for my business using WordPress, so this thread is now closed.
    Bye
