help with anchor tags

As everybody can tell i am noob. i trying do anchor tags. i keep trying to do it in blogs and here but it does not turn out right. I went to several places on trying to do it. like wordpress, w3school, etc. here is what i got from w3. <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/">Visit W3Schools!</a>. everytime i try to do it does not pop up. on the blogs it would be vistw3school as the web address

I cant make into a link just that. <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/">Visit W3Schools!</a>[/url]. No this is not my website.I just copied from the website school. i trying to do like u did cheap web hosting link or tech blog or some thing. Im trying to anchor tag but i am not sure why i cant do it. i keep doing what wordpress.org and w3schools said to do which is on the first line

you need to paste in an html editor

here you have to use BBC code (not html)
yes you can do on blogs (but change your editor to html based)

what about when i comment on blogs? This is what i use <a href="url">Text to be displayed</a>. when i click on the link it would be text to be displayed as the web address.
