there is not a lot of things that you can do in order to improve the CTR on a searches.

The template is very strict, you may try to change colors.

That may not be true. Now Adsense for search is using Google Custom search. So you can do a lot of optimization on it. You can define where you want to place your ads. You can customize the complete theme etc. as well.

Its hard to make good money off adsense search. Basically because it requires 2 actions to profit from it.

There's not a whole lot you can do to increase CTR/eCPM for this service..

I've just added google search to my site. However the search results page does not contain any ads? How can I put ads on the search results page?

I've gone through all the options in adsense, but nowhere does it mention ads...

    Thanks a lot!

you have to check the new google custom search features and stuff they added.
I have never made much cash with their search feature but if you can have default search page for each term which requires a bit of php, so you can redirect highly searched ones to a custom page with some adsense modification then you can get some clicks.

Remember people search your blog to find stuff around your blog not to click ads.
Think about visitor before about clicks and you will get clicks after wards..

Because if people wanted to search the web they would use google not your blog

Thanks for that! I've added the new custom search to the 1st site listed in my sig. This is already getting decent traffic coz of useful content... But when you search for something, there are no ads on the new page that it opens up... Any ideas?

    Cheers!

Don't worry about your Adsense for Search. They never really make much unless you get a lot of traffic on your site. Concentrate on your main Adsense for Content and Referrals.
