I am having troubles with my main hard-drive which has all my programs and everything installed.
I am installing windows on a new hard-drive, and my question is can I have windows run off the new hard drive and run all the old programs from the old hard-drive or do i need to reinstall all the programs again?

I think u should reinstall, but if there is a way you can let them work without reinstalling it will be very hard to do.

You can dual boot your windows with the other disk. But as you said that you are having a problem with your main disk, i think your main disk wont last any longer and you need to install the softwares on your new disk.

    -or-

You can install your new disk and make it your primary disk.

    yea im running windows xp.

john06, what do you mean by your second option? so just make my new disk the primary one where windows runs off, but what do I do with the programs and all the data saved on the old drive?

To a point. You can install a new copy of windows on your new harddrive. You can have both harddrive running at the same time and access your old one. But, many programs will not run because our missing all of the libraries and registry files.

You could defiantly access things such as pictures, documents, and music. But you probably wont be able to run many programs :(

yea i just got done with that part, playing with the sharing and security crap.

well is there anyway I could get the old registry, old library, etc. and put them on the new windows copy which is on the new disk? would that work?
