Help - What the Heck is a BROAD keyword?

Form what I understood, lets say I had the terms:

    [dog food]
    "dog food"
    dog food

    in an adgroup.

From what I always understood, if someone typed in

    Organic Dog Food

then the Dog Food keyword would trigger my ad.

But it is not! Why is this?

How can I get my keyword to pop up with additional words?

I've noticed this same issue recently, where some long tail searches should have matched on my single keyword, or two keyword, broad matches, but didn't. They SHOULD, but don't!

Only workaround I found was expanding my keyword lists to include a ton of combinations of relevant words, which then did trigger for the given searches.

Leads me to wonder if Google aren't giving some preference to long tail keyword combos irrespective of the bid amounts... strange indeed.

the broad match of dog food may trigger your ad if someone typed in organic dog food. Google 'decides' which KWs are triggered by broad match.

My best guess is that organic dog food would trigger it - it may just be that your QS / budget / cpc aren't 'good enough' to rank for that KW, you also have to give it a bit of time. To be honest it would be a lot more profitable for you if you put more time into KW research and had Organic Dog Food as an exact match
