Help wanted: What is better

I bought imagehostingdirectory.com a few weeks ago. There is a blog included. I would like to redesign and develope both. My question now is...
What is more recommendable for the url of the blog concerning SEO:

imagehostingdirectory.com/blog or using subdomain
blog.imagehostingdirectory.com

I don't think it really matters, but I personally would go for the subdirectory just for convenience sake.

 

It matters. The subdomain would be treated like a new domain without any backlinks or importance. But the subdirectory would benefit from the links and importance of the main domain.

 

I'm not so sure about that. I haven't done enough testing to be sure, but I used to have a subdomain that seemed to be treated the same as a subdirectory, at least in some ways. What tests have you done/seen that make you say that subdomains are treated as separate domains?

 

/blog is also more user friendly, in the (unlikely) event someone wanted to type the address to your blog in somewhere they would probably be able to guess it. I know it's unlikely but it's there

 

I have seen lot of domain with /blog ranked well here.. therefore i go for /blog.. But it all depends on how you will going to work on it.. good luck!

 

It actually depends from you. If you want to treat the blog as a new site or as part of the domain. For seo purpose...pretty much it would be the same, depends how you optimize it and how much link love you share to the blog from the main domain and the inner pages of the main domain.

I would like to develop them separately with article marketing and directory submissions e.g. I want to build one way links from blog to mainpage. Actually there will be 2 sites.

I'm working on a big site which has the main content on the domain and several other related niches on some subdomains (created mainly for visitors not SEs). They each show different amounts of backlinks and barely get any traffic.

And another disadvantage of subdomains is that not many directories accept them.

 

Hmmm...yes, but do you link to your subdomains well from your domain?

both are the same for spiders, they don't know the difference....
