There is a domain expired on 05-sept-2008 and right now parked with dotster. And there is a term to renew it with which I am little confused. I have to agree this before renewing: "I understand that this domain is NOT available for purchase and that I will NOT be the new registrant after renewing these domains. Any payment for this name is NON-REFUNDABLE and extends the registration for the CURRENT registrant." Now I don't understand if its expired, why is it not available for purchase? and why does it extends the registration for the CURRENT registrant and not the new registrant? Sorry for a noob question
I believe domains typically have 30 days or so after expiration to become available to people, other than the current owner. It's an "on-hold" or "grace" period, which allows the current owner to renew the domain before it's put up for sale to anyone else.
They have to go through expiration, redemption peroid etc, I would read up on "expired names" to find out the full details.
