Ok, I'm an Illustrator newbie, but I couldn't figure this out on my own. I've set up a canvas of 4x9, and some of the items on my canvas spill over a little beyond the 4x9 space... when I convert to a pdf, it's converting that stuff too. Is there a way to erase or remove anything that spills over the edge of the working space?

    hi thebassman,

in order to clip all your content in your canvas, you need to create a crop mark. to do this, create a 4x9 box and align it perfectly on your canvas (or covering area where you want your content to be included). then select the box, choose object>create crop marks. a crop mark will appear at each edges of the box and when you export it to pdf / jpg or whatever, it will follow your crop marks area. hope this helps!
