I gave a programmer my ftp information, he disappeared, i changed it obviously, and he came back threatening me He says he has all my ftp information and site files and says he's going to null and share He told me he uses cgi tel-net (http://www.rohitab.com/cgi-telnet) to access all the files. I'm having trouble finding out where this is installed He wants money, which I don't have right now :/ I'm not too sure what to do. He claims hes a moderator of these warez forums I'm not sure whether to believe him or not, but I do know i need to do something about this. Help? Thanks! p.s. This guys email is
The fault is yours. Why you gave such an important information to someone who can't be trusted? At this point, I think the best shot you can give is to take a legal action if he distributes your data. Otherwise I don't see any solution there.
he was a programmer i hired to fix my website he needed it to edit the files, how else was he supposed to fix the site? legal action is the only way? :/ thanks!
So am I correct in thinking you hired him to do work then gave him the shaft when it came to payment?
Do you really owe him money for his work or he is asking without doing any work? Although you have changed your FTP credentials if he has already downloaded your scripts to his PC - he can easily spread it in his forum... Taking legal action will be expensive and time consuming unless you feel its worth of it. You can disable Telnet access on your server... Google it.. you could find lot of sites offering info on this..
he never fixed anything, dont owe him anything he's a scammer who said he would fix my site, took my ftp info, downloaded everything, and installed telnet and i'm trying to find how to but i can't find out which directory its in
http://www.ehow.com/how_2005294_secure-server-disable-telnet.html or if that's no good to you, try this Google search
At this point what should I do is this. Change all password, even forum admin password, and database. Contact hosting company and ask them to assist you with this to send you a list with modify/uploaded files after a certain date.
just tell him you have a guy, and he is waiting for him to rip off the files, and wen he does, he would trace thhe ip and locale and stuff, and bang him in the rear, no matter even if he uses ultravpn to cover his backside. that should make him think for a while before he attempts anything
I would suggest contacting a Server management company(like platinumservermanagement.com) to analyze your servers, harden it and remove the scripts installed on your server. and if he publishes your files at a certain site, you can have it removed by subscribing to DMCA.com They can remove your files in any site for a small fee. (less expensive and faster than hiring a lawyer)
