Hi, i am trying to get my site listed in dmoz, have followed all the criteria, previously it took 4 years for my other site to get picked up and listed in dmoz, it was through some editors who just visited this forum (many thanks). However i am trying with http://www.beginner-tutorials for over 1.5 years now. Unique content - all content is created by me. tried to put it in http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/FAQs,_Help,_and_Tutorials/ I see the category was just updated, just wondering after 1.5 years should i try submit, if i remember correctly someone said that editors could have 1000's of sites to check and one of the things it says is not to resubmit - maybe i misread this somewhere. Site: http://www.beginner-tutorials.com Title: Beginner Web Tutorials. Description: Beginner online web tutorial in HTML Java PHP Photoshop XHTML CSS JavaScript XML XSL ASP SQL ADO VBScript Tutorials References Examples. I am continuosly updating content, like this week i am going to add another 10 tutorials. Kindest Regards Fergal.
Resubmitting will send you to the back of the list... However, your trouble likely lies within your description. It's bloated with keywords and no one likes that, well, heh, webmasters do, but editors certainly don't. Tone down the description to look more in line with the other sites listed in the category... you may find that that helps. more importantly promote your site by others means, as there is a lot more promotion then a DMOZ listing! Best of luck! Q
if i tone down the subcription and i am put the back of the list i could be waiting another couple of years, ah well thats what you get for trying.
Your wait time will seemingly not change... there are many other sites that have waited for YEARS so heh, you'll hardly notice the difference. Alternatively, you may wish to just ignore it completely and just go about your day. Many editors do NOT bother with the submission queue at all, so the time that it takes to re-submit may just be a waste of time. Flip a coin, the rest of the listing process is a gamble, ya might as well take another chance
The KW stuffed description above is what's in the website's metatags. Few (because there might be some) editors ever look at those. The suggested descriptions are much tamer - but part of the editorial job is to rewrite them anyway if needed. We don't expect website owners to be fully au fait with our guidelines and practices and to be expert description writers. There's no need or point in suggesting the site again., so please don't. I'm not sure why you said that because it isn't true. Exaggeration doesn't aid credibility .
appologies, if i did not mention that i ran this site as part of a subdomain before this. It was part of http://www.learningsteps.com/beginner-tutorials/index.php and had a url redirect. I only bought domain name www.beginner-tutorials.com in march or something and tried to make it a seperate unpaid entity. I had thought that suburl could get accepted, so then i bought original domain and added it. anyway i should of mentioned this and i appologise again, thanks Jim.
