    Hi fellows,
I'm going to create a forum styled website and I need some advise on to choose the best application.
-The website will/must be by invitation only.
-Must have three different levels (normal users, vips, private "where users from one level can't go to the other level unless the administrator authorise)
-Site can show up on google search, but not the content.

    Thanks

well there are so many applications that you can choose from the most popular probably is the vbulletin but then if you are looking for a free one i would recommend phpbb or simple machines. If you are really looking something unique which you want it to be custom made for you, you could pm me i know some good developers who don't charge a lot but still you can get what you really want.

    Choose MyBB hands down .
It's free and beats Vbulletin in many aspects .

Another vote for MyBB from me as well. I successfully use it on GIMP Forums for several months already.

Based on your specifications I would also suggest to try Vanilla.

If you need Free forum script, then choose Simple Machine Forum(SMF) or PhpBB
but if paid forum script then please go for Vbulletin .

I've used SMF and it was nice. I have two vBulletin forums and have no issues with those either (other than the cost, lol).

I just started a MyBB site and I've got to say I'm impressed with it so far. Only thing I don't like is it seems there are not that many good options for quality skins/themes yet but I'm sure that will come as it gets more popular. I think I'd recommend MyBB if you are looking for the free option.

    Free:SMF
    Paid:VBulletin

Hands down this is the only choice to make, if your already paying, skip IPB and go straight with VB, otherwise, SMF is the way to go.

I would honestly start with free software. You have no idea at the outset whether you will wind up wanting to stay in this long term or not or how much time and energy you want to invest in it. A lot of people burn out on forums early when they realise just how much work is involved.

I use SMF. MyBB is another very good free software.

Have you try Joomla with Kunena (or another forum extension)? I heard this combination is more easy to customize..
