I run a PHPBB forum and I have spammers registering with nasty usernames. Though I have enabled admin only activation, the username shows up in latest users list on my site homepage ands it bad effect to have porn usernames. Is there a way I can block these people (using say IP blocking etc) using robots.txt or something like it So far I have been manually deleting these users, but they just don't stop (they can't post or do anything on site, still sign up) One option I am considering is to use the mod to do word verification during registration, but I think someone is doing it manually so it may not be too effective. Thanks in Advance
Think you can require all new users to be approved by you. Out of curiosity do all domains go back to Moscow? There are probably some hacks out theree to help. We took down a phpbb because of same problem and I did not want or have the time to have to deal with the spam. Maddening is it not? Have you checked to see is spammer is hitting from same IP each time he shows up? If so you might be able to block using .htaccess. Shannon
I typically check their email id, and anything like mailo.ru I select for deletion. I tried to look through the users table but there is nothing like user ip stored (phpbb). I think the ip is stored when user makes post or so. So I don't know how to figure out IP address from which any user has signed up etc
