could someone give me a primer on SEO or a link to it? i've got lots of materials that can be published online(such as health/fitness/medical topics).

if you do, then I promise to help you out. I've done some research on this and know a little on pagerank, which is done by having links to your website on other websites. I'll promise to put your link on my page once i put it online.

Forget pagerank - http://www.seomoz.org/beginners.php is a good starting point. I'd advise getting something like SEO book as well. Keep checking the forums, but only do that after you get a good base.

Take your time. SEO follows the 80/20 rule. The first 80% of knowledge will come pretty quickly, but the last 20% (the part that makes you money) will take some time.

    Have fun! :)

I think the last 20% is much easier, as you have done alot yet and you know whats more left to do.

also, how long should it take to learn seo?

6-9 Months worth of reading and experimenting and you'll be on top of things.

really? that long? i barely studied 3 months for my upcoming MCATs. i've got a two week long break after the MCATs, and so i'll just do it then. perhaps it's the experimentation part that'll take time.

Most people don't expect much from any new site until after the 6 month-ish mark. It takes time to build links etc. If you want to learn SEO you'll have to find out how it works to launch a site and get it up ranking well. That can take very long.

alright, i've started a blog. T0PS3O, sorry, i really like your format. content-wise, is my website heading in the right direction? please comment if you like it. also comment if you want to see a specific type of article (such as weight loss? most mouse potatoes could really use this one). http://gotalkhealth"dot"blogspot"dot"com

    'to the top' :)
    ^^^^^^
    It's called a 'bump' :p
You can earn infractions, but you are very polite, so that might help.

    On the topic of SEO:

-I'm very interested in seeing other search engines give King Goo some competition.

-If I'm going to spend 6-9 months learning SEO, I'd like to be able to go to a search engine (as an end user) and get better, more useful results.

    Good luck with your studies.
