HELP: Sudden Drop In Ranking!?

    Hi everyone,

I own a (stable) e-commerce site for about 2 years now and it always had splendid rankings for a broad variety of keywords. A few hours ago I saw that my traffic flow just stopped.... Is there any seo expert that can tell me why this happened???

I can say that the site always had static content but recently (since 1 week or so) I started a wordpress blog which is attached to my main domain name. The last week I have been submitting vast amounts of UNIQUE content to my new blog and I saw immediate traffic from these new blog posts.

WHY did Google slap me? I thought Google loved unique content??

As stated above, I wouldn't begin to worry unless you are seeing the same results in a few days time. At which point, it will be time to consider whether you have made any dramatic changes (both on and off page) in the last month. Furthermore, have you engaged in any unnatural link building techniques recently- you may have been a delayed casualty to the constantly evolving Penguin update. Finally- if things don't improve in the next 48-72 hours, start manually reviewing your backlink profile for any "bad links" you don't recognise etc.

Thanks but I don't make any backlinks myself. Even if that's the root cause of the problem I will never able to remove such backlinks. My domain has pagerank 4.

Is it specific search terms that dropped off? What % of traffic is organic? Has all your search traffic dropped or just some key keywords?

As already stated, report back in a few days. There is nothing to be done just yet.

I agree, probably just a shake down after the recent Google algo updates. Just sit tight and keep going on adding the unique content to your site. It will pick up.
