daley - welcome to DP I would advice you to not invest at this stage. Look around, read a lot of posts/threads using the search function, ask people for help when you need it (like you just did). After you are sure about the business you wish to get into, have done enough research about it and know enough about it, you can start investing small amounts. You can increase your investments after you start seeing some future in the business. Best of luck!
Yes, definitely start small. Your business plan may work in the long run, but if your spending gets out of control, your overhead will crush you before the business has time to work.
