    1. Keyword research and domain buying ;)
    2. Work on your title, meta keywords, descriptions
    3. Work on H1/H2/H3 tags and site linking structure
    4. Get links from directories, articles, social bookmarks, forums etc.
    5. Keep posting good content on the site.

    Before starting SEO steps you need to define your work in two parts - off-page and on-page. With the off-page you need to do promotion for web site and with on-page you need to do optimization, modification and changes. Most careful part is on-page in which you need to do decide title, meta, navigation, h1/h2/h3, content and products placement. After all these things you can proceed with promotion of website.
