I'm trying to search the files in a folder and it's subfolders. As a test I'm looking for the word "function". Windows explorer finds several .html files but does not locate any .php files. Yet, I know the characters "function" exist in several .php files. What can I do to make Windows Explorer search all file types? I have found no information about this on the web.
in search choose "all files and folders".. then in "all or part of file name" put "*.php" and "*.*" if you want to search all filetypes. then put in "function" in the "word or phrase of the file part" and Look in "Browse..." for the folder that has all the files.
There is another little known search facility in Windows in your Administrative Tools > Computer Management when the box pops up, click on Services and Applications > Indexing Service > Service. Underneath there is a Query Catalog utility which has advanced search routines. Other folders in this service allow you to control which folders get indexed, and it would be wise to set those to the document areas that you want to have indexed. This is like a built in super search engine for your Windows files.
