I was wondering that should i use noindex for tags in my wordpress blog to avoid duplicate content penalty or is it okey to get tag urls indexed ?
Google knows well about the wp infrastructure. Indexing the tags can not be a big problem. However adding the noindex meta tags will make googlebot's life easier and then google can make your life easier. Robots.txt can work better than noindex for this.
Thank you for the clarification, I figured it would be reasonable for search engine purposes. Not the users that are viewing the website but they do have value to the users that are searching for a relative answer based on tags. I did hear that Google does not find the importance in prioritizing meta keywords for such techniques have been abused in the past. May that indexing tags is the best alternative.
First of all, there is no duplicate content penalty. Google filters the duplicate content instead of ranking adjustments. Noindex has nothing to do with Duplicate content. Noindex is only used to tell Search engines not to crawl certain links.... There is no guarantee that noindex tag can block search engines... and even some search engines ignore the same.
I use "related posts" plugin for the visitors. I don't think that many people search something based on tags. If so, there must be searchers for categories and archives.
I use the "ultimate noindex nofollow tool" plugin and put a no index and nofollow on tag pages, category pages, author pages and wp login pages. But yes, you will get duplicate content penalty. I doubt your site would get deindexed but still it ain't good. Google uses many different factors in it's ranking system and duplicate content is a main one. They are tag keywords linking to the related post based off queries that by which implements the related post to its own page.

I wouldn't mind having tags indexed. But setting them all to no follow can be a pain. Tags are good for SEO, I have been coming up with good blogs because of their tags.
Your welcome and your welcome lol IMO and In my experiences, tags are only any good for search terms when users ares searching around my site. I don't want the tag pages indexed. and setting them to noindex and nofollow is very easy with the plugin I mentioned above. Takes about 2 seconds. Ummm, did you read his question...?
