Hi DP members, I am looking for your valuable suggestions about SEO process. I have the man power but we are not aware about the process... Would you be so kind and helping us..... (*) How can we take our website in top 10 results at google? (*) What efforts we should make? What should we take care... (*) Do we have to make the same effrots to get our website listed to other search engine as well such as yahoo msn and others? Is there any step by step guide we can read and approach.... Thanks,

First make sure every page has unique Title and keywords used are available in the page content. Unique meta description, and lots of usefully content written for users not for search engines. Get incoming links, create a XML sitemap and submit it to Google Webmaster Central. Go on holiday for a week than check it out making notes of you current position, than a week later again, and so on... And BTW, lots of patients as things doesn't happen overnight.

Any website I manage, my main aim is to increase quality content. For me, I run a property website, so I make sure my directors and sales guys write blogs, articles and news releases, as Google loves fresh, related and unique content. Secondly, I make sure I am always increasing one way links, from all of the directories out there (I use DirectoryCritic). Then I use Social sites. And I also have started a small reciprocal linking campaign, but it has to be relevant. But, content, for me at least, is the key.
How to choose the right keywords? I have a series of websites, i want to optimize. Let say i have a dating website, and want to optimize for DATING with MEN DATING with WOMEN Then how to check these, and how to process them further...
see overtture or any other good seo keyword tool, see its number of searches. Your keyword should have huge of searches for a better chance of huge volume of organic traffic. Another thing, see your competitors, the huge volume of searches and less competition is the best option
have a great site on page composition, do link building using your competitive kw/s as anchor text as mhaye said there's no instant in this job. maintain the quality of the site.. make sure that you done seo in a right manner. for me first do basic seo then try to experiment new technique to keep your site rank. diff. SE has different algo.. but as i observe once you crawled and ranked in GG the two SE follows. and.. if your site is about marketing or e commerce it must need to be visible in any SE. around globe.

With regards using keyword tools to view searches for keywords - you don't have to go with the keywords that are searched more. In fact it will be much harder for you to get good rankings for these keywords. You could try aiming for less popular keywords but there are more of them so they soon add up. e.g. 'dating with men' may return 10,000 searches/month but will be hard to optimize for as it's going to be very competitive. But 'dating with men over 40' might return 700 searches per month, it has less searches but will be easier to optimize for. It's also a more targeted keyword. Dave

It's hard to say how quick you can get a top 10 listing. It can depend on how much competition there is and how your competition are ranked. SEO Elite will give you that information. I think there are similar free tools available that give similar/same data as SEO Elite but I can't recall them. If you type the keyword "dating with man over 40" (with the quotes) into google right now you get this forum post as the top result. Without the quotes and it comes around 70 position. I've no idea how many times people search for that term. The same happens with "Pick Artists in NEW YORK". When you want to compete for a term like "pick up artists in new york", type it into google with the quotes and that will tell you how many people/sites are competing for the same exact phrase. Without quotes will return more results because it searches for any of the keywords of the phrase in any sequence. There are little or no sites competing for that exact phrase so it should be relatively easy to get a good ranking for it with a little effort. As well as writing and posting articles, go visit dating forums, make informative posts and put the link to your site with the correct anchor text in your signature. This will register as a back link and should get you some traffic from the forum too. You could create your own free blogs on blogger or squidoo or hubpages with content relating to dating and link back to your site. this will help create more back links. Dave
Due to competitors you can't be sure whether you will be on top or not.. If you optimized your site well and you don't do some tricky things that will help you rank # 1..
I was I know article submission is no longer advisable. DO link building, using your target KW as an anchor text. DO social bookmarking, SMO... Instead of article submission, do link baiting
