There is no straight answer to your question. If you need a lot of traffic to sell your stuff, then set a sales target (10 sales per month for example) and your conversion rate (0.5 percent for example), this means you need about 200 visits a month to reach your target. Now how many searches will get you 200 visists a month? If you think you can be on first spot of google, then you will get about 50% of the total searches (your keyword should be searched about 400 times a month), if you plan on being on the top 5, you will only get about 10% of traffic so you need 2000 searches a month, and so on Normally, I never mess with keywords that have less than 1000 searches a month for micro niche website, for bigger sites (niche websites), start from 5000 searches and up Hope that help
There is no clear answer to this question, all you need to know that the popular the search is the more is the competition. So, while selecting try moderate searched keywords. And related to exact number there is no exact figure, it entirely depends upon the popularity of the niche.
If the keyword phrase is very well paying and the competition is very weak, you could possibly do ok with as few as 250 exact, local searches per month. That is pretty much the bottom cut-off number.
