For just one moment of our time, besides the things we do in the web, there is still hope for some good deeds in this world. Already lighted 1.

 

I helped a PI track a runaway to San Francisco. The kid started in Florida. I was able to do it because I'm a sneaky bastard. My e-mail service looked all safe and innocent (all you needed to register an account was to pick a username and password) but I know how to quietly log things.

If you want to actually do something about child porn, start a web-based proxy and log activity and voluntarily pass it on to the authorities.

Everyone on DP that runs a proxy could pretty easily track child porn and get things shut down. It just takes time and actual effort instead of lighting a stupid candle.

I have to agree with Lorien, I don't get the point. It is nice and all and if it makes you feel good I guess it is okay, but it is not actually accomplishing anything. I am not sure how much it is educating anyone either. I think Child Pornography is an instinctive issue where you are either for it, or against it.

So what is any of this doing to protect children, or punish child predators? I understand the importance of awareness, but I think sometimes people ease their own concious by clicking a candle online and feel like they have done something to better the problem... and I don't see the result.

 

I dont see what i will do, but i'll always show my support for the cause.

thats what i thought. it looks a bit like this "i support our troups in iraq" bumperstickers (probably made in china...) - if someone dies in iraq he will be supported by some x0.000 bumperstickers at least - this will help him or his family for sure.

I'm sure it doesn't even have to be a proxy, just any website built with a messaging system, which you can script to flag up certain words, Echelon-style. The only question is, what kind of slang is used by kiddie porn fans? How do you even recognise sickos, when they probably talk about it in some sort of jargon only they understand?

 

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Me being on that side of the track when I was a child, I WISH people had made it more of their business. It's obvious who you're really thinking about here and it's not justice or the child or what is the right thing to do.

The issue was hardly talked about in the times when it happened to me. I'm glad for this candle website thingy, no matter how small it is. Anything that educates and gets people talking leads to ACTION.

Why would it be everyone's business other than the fact it is wrong? Because these children are OUR future. Think about what future you're going to have if you simply don't care. You think it won't effect you but it will. Ever heard of the chaos theory? If a butterfly flapping its wings in Montana can start the Florida hurricane, then you better darn sure be concerned of what this issue brings up!!

As for everyone else:

If you REALLY feel sorry about this issue, do more than just light a candle because right now at this very moment, as you read this: some child is out there and abuse is happening right now. It could be your own child or brother or sister or neice or nephew or friend. And they may be dead already. It's hard to see outside the little bubble of your world, but we all should start thinking about these things and DOING something about them.

Sorry for being so long winded but jvm222's post really bothered me.....I truely hope society doesn't begin to develop his sense of "understanding" because child abuse is NEVER okay.
