    Hey everyone!

I started a video (music videos, movies, and other)
    http://www.videolack.com

I have seriously no idea how to promote this kind of website.

Until now i have done the basics:

    - using SEO friendly urls: example:
    http://www.videolack.com/kevin-rudolf-ft-lil-wayne/let-it-rock-video_e7a935520.html
( the video name and artist is added to the url)

    - submitted a sitemap to Google, and over 3000 urls are indexed :)
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site:videolack.com&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

    - Adding new content every now and then...

Now i need to know how to drive traffic, by increasing google rankings.
How to market the website, is PPC better for this type of website. I will monetize it when u have at lease 1000 uniques daily, for now i have around 10-20 from my forum signatures.

    Any help appreciated.

Sorry to disappoint you, but Digg is not an option for your website. First you'll need great viral original videos, that are hosted only on your website, than you need a power account on Digg and a very large network of connections to see some traffic from there.

I also don't recommend PPC - not if you don't have a clue how to do it properly. You'll just lose your money that way and you'll lose them very quickly for no returns.

My advice is to market with YouTube, because you will be marketing to a pre-targeted audience - people that are already online, watching videos, killing some time. You can do that by uploading many watermarked videos on Youtube, when the watermark is your URL and you can also put some promotional call to action in the description of the video : "For more funny videos visit example.com now" e.g. Of course don't expect the traffic to flow instantly, but with time, patience and hard work you can pretty quickly reach 10 000 unique visitors a day.

Remember : your target is extremely easy to "catch" : Most of the people who watch these videos are just bored workers in front of a PC, waiting the end of their shift or teenagers that have nothing else to do. They will pretty much click on anything that says "AMAZING!" "INCREDIBLE!" or "HILARIOUS!!!". The more videos you upload, the more traffic will come. If you have the time or money you can target some of the other video sharing websites like Hulu, Vimeo or video.google.com for even more traffic.

Hope you get the idea :)

Thanks alot for the reply. I get the idea and will do that just now. I remember posting 1 video on youtube with a url in the description pointin to my friends site. He told me he gets at least 50 uniques from it. Not it only has 50 000 views from 1 year ago.
Thanks for the help once again.

    Hi there,

Submit to social video bookmarking sites.
Digg.com, Video Bomb, Flurl, StumbleVideo - all these sites have the potential to send a lot of viewers if enough people vote for your video.

Submit to regular social bookmarking sites
Don’t forget the regular social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Reddit, BlinkList etc. These sites will link to videos and if enough people vote for it you can get a lot of visitors

Submit your video (or a teaser video) to the busiest video sharing sites
YouTube is busier, but so is Daily Motion, MetaCafe, and many others. Check out a huge list of video sharing sites here. If it’s a teaser video or you want people to visit your website write your website in the description and also show it within the video.

Post your video in relevant discussion boards and forums.
Read their rules first and don’t spam. Make sure what you post is relevant to the forum and choose the busiest forums to post in.

    A catchy title
A catchy title is just as important as a catchy thumbnail to encourage people to click that link to watch your video.

    File Sharing
This is often forgotten but if you are giving away your video for free why not distribute a copy for free over file sharing networks. Depending on the niche of your video this can work well. Don’t forget to include the name of your website in your video.

I hope the above mentioned tips will be of some help to you.

    Regards

    To Roger_Silvester:

Thanks, that will surely help me, i had the same idea of teaser videos, guess i'll just have to try it :). I will also try the file sharing, but It'll be hard as most videos are copyrighted and are illegal to download, I'll find some kind of video to share :)

    Thanks again for your help.

Doesn't having predominantly video content make it hard to get high search engine rankings? Do you get high enough traffic from other places that you just don't care?

Whats most amazing is that google indexed my URLs a week back, and yesterday i posted 5 links to digg.com and BOOM i made it to the second page for some music titles and keywords and got traffic from google for 5 videos.

Analyctics report from google for today:

So digg does help with rankings.

I think you should promote your video by using YouTube. That works for me.
