    Hello,

I am in a dilema. I own and created a software website. The site is related to image hosting and photo editing, screendash.com.

I am not sure the best way to sell the software. Currently I offer a free/trial software and a paid version. I am thinking of just offering a free version. I would then collect emails for the free version which I could later use to advertise a new and better version.

I could also offer free version and somehow use server message like new updates available from Screen Dash.

    Thoughts?

I would collect e-mails for the free version but still offer the paid version.

My plan is to give away free version and then release new better version in 3 to 6 months. Do you think emails on the free version will prevent users from download?

Freebie seekers will download almost anything. Why not do like the big guys and code your app in such a way that it stops working after 30 days. Collect emails on the free trial version.

Heck, if the app is any good, get an affiliate program going and let your affiliates do some of the legwork for you!

Thanks, the app does stop working after 30 days currently. My thinking is if I establish good loyal user base on free product and get their emails i can then come out with new software and get good buyers. I could also ad ads on free version? Then paid would not have ads. Thoughts?
