buy yourself a delicious coffee and cake or something nice you love
    sit down
write more content in your blog
get toip serps on each article you write

good articles meeting human needs palced in top serps will increase the traffic - NO end in sight - just limited to your efforts to produce top content needed by people

the bnest site probmotion is top serps in all major SE and lots of content - more and more of it until you have covered all topics
and until you have your paypal credit card

even in a fourm you can publish first some content that attracts more visitors with more questions

Keep the $18 until you have reached $100 then spend it on buying some links or employ someone to post on your forum to generate more interest.

You might be able to buy a month worth of link from a site in your niche. But...all that said...you can spend the money on some cheap press release (will be much better)..or write articles (with a link back to your site) and pay someone to submit them all over (you could submit them yourselves but takes a lot of work)...or, you could send the money to me (for no reason) :p

add an RSS feed to your forum with a validated RSS format
then submitt it to all major RSS directories
that too will get MORE visitors = more $ for more fun in life

    a google search
    RSS howto
    will help you

RSS feeds is like FREE press release to many resources of people actually SEARCHING for what you offer in RSS directories, myyahoo, mymsn, mygoogle, etc

I have never invested a single $ in site promoti0n - Google and all major SE do that for FREE for me and all those who care about SEO and clean content

but I have invested far in excess of 100+k$ in site content during the past 9+ yrs

each additional adsense income goes into:
one part charity each day, one part more/better content and last part some fun in life - that always worked top for me

I would take the $18 and offer it as a prize to the first person who makes 100 posts. It will create attention to your forum and you will likely get more than 100 posts because some people will try and fail.

    <shameless plug>
You can always create a blog with us http://www.journalhome.com
And you can even put you own adsense code/channel.
    </shameless plug>

Just send me a PM and I will change your account to allow you to edit your template.
And that wont cost you a dime so you can use the $18.00 on coffee.

Buy some targetted leads such as at metricsdirect.

Really, you should treat your web business as a business. Without sufficient funds, then you will have troubles competing. Just having a website alone wont guarantee traffic.

I don’t know about that. It can be done for free. You can create a successful site with a bit of work.

The receipt has been posted here before.
1- Write, (at least 20), good articles and submit them all over the web.
2- Participate in any forums that are even slightly related to your topic.
3- Create a blog, (probably located on the same domain), and update it daily.
4- Learn about SERP and SEO technics, they always change so you need to keep up with the new technics.
5- Learn what not to do, (if you are not sure, come here and you should find an answer).

Once you are done, start all over again.

FFMG you have posted some good pointers. For someone on a limited budget or no budget, this is a good way to start. Once you have surplus funds, then you need to take your business to the next level.

Start small and work your way into bigger things. As you go, learn your market and about your customers.

    I forgot directories.
Submit to as many directories as you can. Time consuming for a little reward, but it is free as well :)
