Help picking keywords, is this right?

Hello previous times I've made adsense sites and i have been able to get them top 3 to make no money . I realized the problem was not enough exact monthly searches for my keyword now Im going to do better. So what criteria should a good keyword have? Now I have been reading that it should have high competition(because you will get more for click), Should get a lot of monthly searches and there shouldnt be a lot of big authority sites on the first page of google.

Any pointers?

3,000 global searches is the minimum and 50,000 for the maximum. That's for the low competition keywords. I bet it's more profitable and advantage if you use keywords with low searches per month because it will give you more chance to get ranked on the top especially if you optimized those keywords well.
