Help: PayPal Unauthorized Claim

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by dragons5, Apr 23, 2009.

I run a handful of digital shops and I know how to fight paypal 'chargebacks' for unwanted products. Each store has a no refund policy and clearly outlines that products are digital and easily copied so we can't allow for returns or refunds.

But yesterday I had a very sizeable purchase from my store, the download links were sent and initiated, and within minutes the buyer complained to paypal that the funds were unauthorized.

    How should I respond?

The purchases were probably made using the funds from a hacked paypal account and hence the dispute.

I guess you can not do anything since Paypal is sure to take the side of the account holder whose money has been stolen.
I know it is just not your fault and the account holder should have been more careful with his pass, but then, unfortunately this is the way paypal functions! :(

that would seem stupid, couldnt someone just claim their account was hacked to get out of a digital purchase? seems like a giant glaring loophole on paypal's end. i will be calling them today to sort this out.

A person can initiate charge backs within 30 days from the date of transaction and hence holding the same for 24 hours would not do any good! :(
