Submit to directories, post comments on leading blogs/sites of your niche, build top notch content and get some links. There is no one direct answer to your requirement.
There are many ways to get links. As you mentioned above...typical are article and directory submission. There are also sites that provide "free one way links" or "free backlinks" which I found gave my sites a boost. Try to put your site in directories that don't want a reciprocal link. (a link on your site) Set up a few blogger "keyword rich - original good content" blogspots and link them to the site you wish to premote. Use Squidoo lenses to link to each of these blogs and your website. A Squidoo lens is easy to build and can be a quick traffic magnet but remember to only use it as a "lens" to focus on your real objective. (i.e. promoting your main site) Also as you have done here...post your comments to "relevant" forums and blogs using a signature or backlink. (But...please...please don't leave crappy one line comments just to get a link as this diminishes both your reputation and the interest of the reader. In the long run this is only destructive to your business and clutters the internet with more rubbish.
